Recruitment

Think Theta

Founded in 1870 on the principles of academic excellence, spreading the widest influence for good, and helping our members become their best selves, Kappa Alpha Theta is the first Greek-letter fraternity for women. Please visit our campus’s Panhellenic website for more information regarding the recruitment process and to register for primary recruitment. Our chapter is so excited to meet all potential new members (PNMs) throughout the primary recruitment process and cannot wait to welcome a new member class this year!

Involvement in fraternity/sorority life provides students with a wide variety of opportunities to develop leadership skills, achieve academically, and increase involvement in the community through various service and fundraising activities. Additionally, fraternity/sorority membership can help make the transition to college smoother and more enjoyable for students by providing a support system found through the camaraderie of the fraternity/sorority community.

Are reference letters required for membership in Kappa Alpha Theta?

No, Kappa Alpha Theta uses a Potential New Member Introduction Form, and it is not required.

Who is eligible to write a Potential New Member (PNM) Introduction Form and how do I submit one?

Any person is eligible to submit an introduction form, regardless of membership. Potential new members should choose someone whom they feel can speak to their character and values. That person can be a Theta, but it does not have to.
Anyone can fill out the online introduction form on the Kappa Alpha Theta website. The online form, upon submittal, will automatically be available to the chapter officers where the potential new member (PNM) is attending school

What Is a "Legacy"?

A Theta legacy is defined as a daughter, granddaughter, great-granddaughter, or sister of a Kappa Alpha Theta member. Stepdaughters, step-granddaughters, step-great-granddaughters, and stepsisters are considered legacies if their family considers them as such. There is no such thing as an indirect legacy.

What Considerations does a Legacy Receive During Recruitment?

Kappa Alpha Theta has eliminated all preferential treatment given to legacies during the recruitment process. This means that there will no longer be an automatic invitation following the first round of recruitment or an automatic placement on the chapter’s bid list.
We acknowledge that many women are not legacies because their mothers, sisters, grandmothers, and great-grandmothers simply did not have the same access to higher education or the means to join Kappa Alpha Theta. By eliminating preferential treatment for legacies, Theta ensures that PNMs are not receiving additional credit for things beyond their control.

Member Orientation

Kappa Alpha Theta chapters initiate their new members between four and six weeks after Bid Day. This program covers the following topics:

  • Theta Beginnings
  • Intellectual Curiosity
  • Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion
  • Widest Influence for Good
  • Leadership Potential
  • Ritual
